Biography
Ingvill Statle Skjørten is a Norwegian mezzo-soprano based between Oslo and Berlin. With one foot in the classical and one in the experimental, she works at the intersection between notated music, free improvisation and performance. Expressive versatility and playfulness are key words to her artistic practice.
As an interpreter of contemporary music, she has worked with composers like Georges Aperghis, Laure M. Hiendl, Maja Ratkje, Helmut Lachenmann, Carola Bauckholt, Sarah Nemtsov, Klaus Lang, Peter Ablinger, Hans Tutschku, Jennifer Walshe, Vykintas Baltakas, Synne Skouen, Dimitri Kourliandski, Siebe Thijs, Franz Martin Olbrisch and Manos Tsangaris. In addition to performing works by established composers, she regularly collaborates and commissions works from young and emerging composers.
Recent collaborations include soloist work with El Perro Andaluz - Ensemble für aktuelle Musik in Dresden, interdisciplinary performances with the artists’ collective HowHow and premiers of pieces by Laure M. Hiendl, Alberto Arroyo and Siebe Thijs.
As part of the duo LiedExtended with pianist Alba Llorach Roca, she won one out of three main prizes at the D-Bü competition for innovative concert formats with the game show-concert Homo Ludens. In 2025 she was a finalist in IGNM Austria’s Sounding Visions Awards, and won an jury recognition award for her solo voice programme von Spiegeln und Rätseln.
Ingvill holds a BA in classical singing from Barratt Due Academy of Music in Oslo and an MA in contemporary music performance and voice from Mozarteum University Salzburg and Hochschule für Musik Dresden. She has participated at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse (voice studio with Elaine Mitchener and Juliet Fraser) and received artistic guidance from Donatienne Michel-Dansac, Marino Formenti, Daniel Gloger and Tora Augestad, amongst others.
Passionate about creating inclusive and immersive concert experiences, she joined the Tonali Bühnenakademie in 2024, a three-year education program for musicians integrating artistic practice with social engagement. In March 2026, she was a stipendiat at TRANSIENT Academy for innovative concert formats with mentors Folkert Uhde, Karola Obermüller, Reinhard Horstkotte and Jeremias Schwarzer.
An experienced ensemble singer, Ingvill works regularly with ensembles such as The Norwegian Soloists’ Choir - where she was an academy member from 2020-2024 - Schola Heidelberg, BachWerkVokal Salzburg and The Norwegian Women's Choir.
Between 2024 and 2026, she co-organized the concert series dasKONZERTs for experimental, electronic, improvised music in unconventional spaces in Dresden, together with Volker Sondermann and Vasily Ratmansky. Since 2025, she is a board member of Konsertserien Periferien in Oslo.
